What does my GMAT Focus Edition score mean?

545-595
Acceptable for many Indian top business schools (ISB / IIM-A PGPX one-year) and some lower-tier international MBA programs. Below the bar for top-25 US / UK / European programs.
645-695
Competitive range for Ivy / top European business schools (LBS / INSEAD / IESE). Common Indian-cohort target.
705+
Top-percentile for Harvard / Stanford / Wharton / Booth / Sloan. Strong applicants from over-represented Indian-engineering pool typically need 720+ to offset profile commonality.

Is GMAT or GRE better for MBA?

Both accepted by most top MBA programs. GMAT is the historical standard and signals MBA-specific intent — useful at programs sceptical of GRE applicants. GRE is more flexible if you might also apply to non-MBA programs or are uncertain. Indian applicants from engineering backgrounds: GMAT typically rewards your quant strengths more directly. Take a diagnostic in each.

What changed with Focus Edition?

Sentence correction (Verbal) and AWA (Analytical Writing) were removed. Quant lost data-sufficiency questions (moved to new Data Insights section). Test is shorter (2h15m vs old 3h30m) and uses a new 205-805 scoring scale instead of the old 200-800. Top-school cutoff targets remain similar in percentile terms.

How does the Indian-cohort effect work?

Indian applicants — especially engineering-background males — are over-represented in top US MBA applicant pools, which means admissions look for differentiation beyond strong GMAT. A 705-720 GMAT plus distinctive work experience, leadership, and SOP frames better than 750 with a generic profile. Don't chase a high GMAT at the expense of essay quality.
