# IELTS Coaching

> **Quick answer.** KC Overseas IELTS Coaching prepares students for the IELTS exam - the English-proficiency test required by universities in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and many European countries. Our 8-12 week program covers all four bands - Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking.

Live classroom and online coaching for IELTS Academic and General Training, with structured speaking + writing feedback and full-length practice tests.

## Format

- **Duration:** Total ~2 hours 45 minutes (Listening + Reading + Writing in one sitting; Speaking on the same or a separate day)
- **Scoring:** Overall 0-9 band, half-band increments. Section bands averaged to overall.
- **Sections:**
  - Listening (30 minutes) - 4 recorded sections; 40 questions covering everyday and academic conversations.
  - Reading (60 minutes) - 3 long passages; 40 questions. Academic version uses academic texts; General uses workplace + everyday materials.
  - Writing (60 minutes) - Task 1 (graph/diagram description, 150 words) + Task 2 (essay, 250 words). Most candidates lose marks here without structured feedback.
  - Speaking (11-14 minutes) - One-on-one interview with examiner. Three parts: intro, individual long turn, two-way discussion.

## Score bands

- **6.5-7.0** - Eligible for most Australian, UK, and Canadian bachelors and masters programs. Common KC student outcome with 8 weeks of focused prep.
- **7.0-7.5** - Strong score for top Australian / UK universities and competitive masters programs. Adequate for most visa requirements.
- **7.5+** - Required for some health science programs (nursing, medicine) and certain Tier 1 universities. Achievable with longer prep and writing-focused work.

## How long should I prepare for IELTS?

Most students achieving band 7.0+ have prepared for 8-12 weeks of structured work. Self-study without feedback typically plateaus around 6.0-6.5 - the writing and speaking modules are where individualised feedback makes the most difference.

## Should I take IELTS Academic or General Training?

If you're applying for a degree program abroad, take Academic. If you're applying for migration / work visas to Australia, Canada, NZ, or UK skilled worker routes, take General Training. The format differs primarily in the Reading and Writing sections.

## Is IELTS or PTE better for my destination?

Both are widely accepted across UK, Australia, NZ, and Canada. PTE is fully computer-based with faster results (typically 1-2 days vs. IELTS' 5-13 days) and is preferred by some students for its predictability. The right test depends on your timeline, your speaking confidence, and the specific universities you're applying to.

## Frequently asked questions

### How is IELTS scored?

Each of the four sections (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) receives a band score from 0 to 9 in half-band increments. The overall band is the average of the four, rounded to the nearest half-band.

### How many times can I take IELTS?

There's no limit. You can retake IELTS as many times as needed; each attempt is independent. Test centres offer multiple dates per month in major Indian cities.

### How long is my IELTS score valid?

Two years from the test date for most institutions. Some immigration authorities (e.g., Australian skilled migration) accept up to 3 years.

### Can KC arrange the test booking?

We help with prep, not test booking. IELTS bookings are done directly with IDP or British Council (the two authorised conducting bodies in India) via their websites.

### What's the difference between IELTS on paper and IELTS on computer?

Identical content and scoring. Computer-delivered IELTS offers faster results (3-5 days vs 13 days for paper) and on-screen tools like word count for Writing. Speaking is the same one-on-one interview in both formats.
